7Keys Music is a private music studio serving San Diego families. I teach in your home, so lessons happen where your student is most comfortable — no extra drive, no extra drop-off.

I'm Crystal French, and I've been teaching for over twenty years. I hold a Master's in Music and Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where I also served as an applied piano and trombone teacher. This fall, I begin my Doctor of Musical Arts at Boston University, where my research explores how rhythm and jazz syllables strengthen language learning in children. I serve on the MTAC San Diego District Board and am a Steinway & Sons Educational Partner, named Teacher of the Year in 2016 and 2017.

Lessons are available in piano, voice, ukulele, trombone, and beginner band instruments, for students ages 4 and up. I also connect families with trusted partner instructors in guitar and digital composition.

Great teaching goes beyond notes on a page. My students often describe lessons as warm — but we work. One parent put it best: I'm not there to entertain her children; I'm there to teach them, in a caring way and with real expectations. Kids rise to that. Every student has innate musical ability waiting to be found, and my job is to help them build the foundation to express their own voice.
